ArmInfo. The so-called "Zangezur corridor" cannot pass through Iran. This is what Turkologist Varuzhan Geghamyan writes.
The expert drew attention to the fact that the deputy chairman of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), which is part of the ruling coalition in Turkiye, member of the Mejlis Ilyas Topsakal again touched upon the topic of the so-called "Zangezur corridor" in the context of the unification of the Turkic world, stating: "Our historical paths must be open. That is why the "Zangezur corridor" is a must for us.
The route through Iran, presented to it as an alternative, is not an alternative." Geghamyan considers it important to record this fact again. "It is important to record this once again so that it is clear that Turkiye and Azerbaijan do not just want to have a road, but gradually conquer Syunik, so talk about alternative roads through the territory of Iran is just distracting propaganda theses," the Turkologist summed up. The Meghri route is a project for a transport route about 40 km long through the territory of the Syunik region of Armenia, which would provide transport links between the western regions of Azerbaijan and its exclave, the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic. The opening of transport routes in the region was envisaged by the agreements that ended the 44-day Azerbaijani aggression against Artsakh in the fall of 2020. Azerbaijan and Turkiye do not hide that they want to get not only a transport route through the territory of Armenia, but also an extraterritorial corridor.
