Ombudsperson`s rapid response team to study grounds for "Tavush for  Motherland movement" participants detention

ArmInfo. Ombudsperson of Armenia Anahit Manasyan calls on the security forces and participants of the  protest action of the Tavush for the Motherland movement to refrain from any attempts to escalate the situation. Such a statement was published after clashes between citizens and security forces during  the protest action near the MFA building, as a result of which 16  people were detained.

The use of disproportionate force by police officers is unacceptable  under any circumstances. The use of force is possible only if there  are grounds established by law, in compliance with the principle of  proportionality. At the same time, the organizers and participants of  the rally, in turn, are responsible for ensuring the peaceful course  of the assembly and must exercise restraint and comply with the  requirements established by law," she noted.

The rapid response team of the Defender's Office was sent to the  Central Department of the RA Police. The latter will conduct  conversations with the detainees, study the grounds for their  detention and the state of ensuring their rights at the police  station.
