ArmInfo. There is no campaign in the Republic of Armenia directed against the Armenian Apostolic Church, RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan told reporters on May 29.
According to him, if the campaign is launched, then its origins should be sought elsewhere, and not in the government of the country and in the ruling majority.
Regarding the incident that occurred the day before during the attempt of Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II to take part in events at the Sardarapat memorial complex, as Pashinyan noted, the head of the AAC drove up to the site of protocol events to which he was not invited. Moreover, the government was not aware of the expectations of the invitation. According to the prime minister, the police were only trying to clarify whether the Catholicos had arrived in order to continue the provocative actions of his supporters and members of the political movement he led. And when they received assurances that the visit was purely protocol in nature, they provided the Catholicos with access to the memorial, Pashinyan said. He stated that before the mentioned episode, the movement led by the Supreme Patriarch tried to obstruct protocol events, and if their actions were not intentional, they themselves created obstacles.
Yesterday, for the first time in the history of Armenia, they tried to block the path to the Sardarapat memorial complex. Dozens of policemen blocked the path of the head of the Armenian Apostolic Church and the clergy accompanying him, roughly pushing away the representatives of the clergy. The incident occurred in the afternoon, before the visit of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to the complex.
Answering a question about the strange coincidence of criticism towards the leader of the Tavush for the Motherland movement, Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, coming from both the Armenian authorities and officials of Turkey and Azerbaijan, Pashinyan noted that he was not familiar with the statements from Ankara and Baku . "I'm not in the habit of commenting on things I'm not familiar with," the prime minister said.
