ArmInfo. There are rare people about whom it is not only difficult, but also impossible to talk about in the past tense. When their words sound louder every year, when they still serve as an example of mercy, philanthropy, nobility, selflessness for several generations of more than one people.
Today, May 22, marks exactly 100 years since the birth of the great man, humanist, and no less outstanding artist, composer, poet, world-famous Chansonnier, public figure, National Hero of Armenia, Chevalier of the French Legion of Honor Charles Aznavour.
Aznavour is a man who has done a lot not only for the art world, but also for her own people. Having lived his entire life outside his historical homeland - in France and Switzerland - Aznavour never forgot about Armenia. In particular, one of Chansonnier's important initiatives was the creation of the "Aznavour for Armenia" fund to raise funds to help victims of the 1988 Spitak earthquake.
With great dedication, he served his two homelands - France and Armenia, becoming a permanent link connecting the two states. The chansonnier himself always said this: "I am one hundred percent French and one hundred percent Armenian."
"100 years ago, on May 22, 1924, Charles Aznavour was born. The mere mention of a title is enough to make one of his songs stick in your head for the rest of the day. So I wish you to spend this May 22 with 'Yesterday Again,'" reads an X message by former French Ambassador to Armenia Jonathan Lacote.
Last year the Armenian government announced that in 2024 anniversary events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Charles Aznavour would be organized, both in Armenia and abroad.
According to the decision of the Council of Elders of Yerevan, a monument to Aznavour, authored by David Minasyan, will be erected in the capital on the square of the same name to Aznavour. In France, a garden named after Charles Aznavour will open on the Champs Elysees. And in the future a monument will be erected.
