ArmInfo. The concentration of police forces near the opera house is due to the need to ensure the safety of about 2 thousand guests who arrived at the event of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. Chief of the RA Police, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of the RA Aram Hovhannisyan told reporters on May 15.
"Let the protesters carry out their action, who is stopping them? The police stand calmly, do not touch anyone, despite the insults addressed to them. Pay attention to this," the police chief said, addressing reporters, pointing, in particular, to the woman who addressed insults to law enforcement officers. "I was even ashamed that there are such people among Armenian women," said Hovhannisyan.
Answering the question that 5-6 police officers beat one person, the police chief assured that an official investigation will be carried out and if it turns out that law enforcement officers exceeded their powers, they will be held accountable.
Earlier, one of the eyewitnesses to this incident said that a man, while walking with his dog, could not get out onto the street he needed, since everything around him was blocked. "He was walking with a dog, they didn't let him through at that section, he crossed to the other side, they didn't let him through at this section either, he came and stopped at a red light. Suddenly the police, having exchanged a few words, immediately attacked him, 5-6 people started beating and cursing the citizen," said an eyewitness.
