ArmInfo. The Five Human Rights Defenders Initiative will provide legal support to students facing sanctions for engaging in strikes or other peaceful acts of disobedience. Member of the initiative, lawyer Ruben Melikyan reported this on Facebook.
The lawyer noted that a strike is a traditional and permissible act of collective protest, which is protected by the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia and international legal documents. In conditions of short duration (for example, a week), this in no way can cause negative consequences for the student.
"We announce that we will provide free legal assistance to all students who are attempted to be sanctioned for carrying out a strike or other peaceful acts of disobedience.
At the same time, we declare that the administration and teachers of the university do not have the right to threaten students participating in a strike, or force them not to go on strike or stop it, therefore we recommend recording in such cases.
We remind you the number of our 24-hour hotline: 095088787. "Five human rights defenders" initiative," Melikyan wrote.
The day before the initiative, responding to rumors that employees of some government and public structures were warned that they would be fired if they took part in peaceful assemblies initiated by the Tavush for the Motherland movement, announced that it would provide legal assistance to citizens fired for participating in a peaceful meeting
