Armenia is turning into extremely dangerous instrument in the hands  of the West - Maria Zakharova 

ArmInfo.The upcoming Armenia-EU-U.S. meeting has caused concern in Russia, as the U.S. and  the EU openly talk about the anti-Russian orientation of Armenia, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova said. 

According to the diplomat, such meetings are a cause of concern to  most of the countries of the region, as they are not aimed at  establishing peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan, but at "driving  the West with its extremely destructive approaches into the South  Caucasus".

Zakharova noted that the West is trying to create new rifts, forcing  the countries of the region to follow the anti-Russian line.

"Why Yerevan professes not to understand what we are talking about is  a big question. Before the eyes of the whole world, Armenia is being  turned into an instrument in the hands of the West for its extremely  dangerous plans, which is totally against the fundamental interests  of the Armenian people," Zakharova said.

In addition, the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry said,  the purpose of such meetings is to destroy the centuries-old ties of  the countries of this region with Russia.

"After all, Armenia is being turned into an instrument for the  implementation of extremely dangerous plans of the collective West,  which are completely at odds with the fundamental interests of the  Armenian people," Zakharova concluded.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov also stated that  Western countries are trying to "drive a wedge" into relations  between Armenia and Russia, and therefore the allied ties of the  countries are being tested for strength.

Zakharova earlier recalled that Russia has repeatedly helped Armenia  and stood up for it. Zakharova drew special attention to the fact  that Moscow has never demanded anything from Yerevan in return for  its support

A tripartite meeting between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan,  U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and President of the European  Commission Ursula von der Leyen is scheduled for April 5 in Brussels.
