ArmInfo. Since its invasion of Nagorno-Karabakh, Baku tries to erase thousand-year presence of Armenians in region. Member of the European Parliament (EP) Emmanuel Maurel wrote on his Twitter account (X).
"Azerbaijani activists dismantled the monument to Charles Aznavour in the capital of Nagorno-Karabakh! Since its invasion, Baku tries to erase the thousand-year presence of Armenians in the region. Ethnic cleansing was followed by cultural cleansing," he wrote.
As ArmInfo previously reported, the Azerbaijani authorities dismantled the monument to Charles Aznavour, erected on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of his birth in 2022 and located next to the Paul Eluard Francophonie Center in Stepanakert.
Previously, monuments to the writer Hakob Hakovyan, national philanthropist Alek Manukyan, activist Alexander Myasnikyan, Soviet soldiers Admiral Isakov, Anatoly Zinevich, Kristafor Ivanyan and others were dismantled. In the park of the same name in Stepanakert, the monument to the Hero of Artsakh Ashot Ghulyan was also dismantled. From materials published on the Internet, we also learn that the graves of those killed in the Artsakh Liberation War are being vandalized. All this is happening against the background of the inaction of the civilized international community.
