ArmInfo. We asked only one question to the CSTO, which remained unanswered - "where is the Organization's zone of responsibility, and does it recognize the borders of Armenia, and within what borders did Armenia join the CSTO?". Speaker of the RA Parliament Alen Simonyan stated, commenting on the statement of the Prime Minister of Armenia that Armenia's participation in the CSTO is frozen.
"There are no answers to this question yet - my personal opinion is that the CSTO has switched off itself and is not functioning," he said.
When asked why, in this case, Armenia will not leave the CSTO, Simonyan noted that "we are waiting and watching what happens next." "I want you to at least trust our political position and tactics a little. Trust, even just a little. I cannot voice much, but I must say that I fully share the dissatisfaction and attitude of every citizen of Armenia towards the CSTO," said the Speaker of the Parliament.
According to Simonyan, An alternative could be to ensure the security of Armenia by all possible means. "Don't put all your eggs in one basket like we did before. When the moment arrived, we believed that it was impossible for our ally not to protect us, or to allow all this at the political level. But it became known that our ally not only allowed, but also turned a blind eye to many things," noted the Speaker of the Parliament.
Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan in an interview with France24 TV channel stated that the collective security agreement regarding Armenia was not implemented, and the republic froze its participation in the CSTO. The CSTO Secretariat stated that it had not received relevant notifications from Yerevan.
The Russian Foreign Ministry noted that they are waiting for clarification from Armenia. The Russian department claims that reducing Armenia's participation in CSTO events does not meet the interests of the Armenian people.
