ArmInfo. The world media was excited today by the statement of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan about the "freezing" of Armenia's participation in the activities of the CSTO.
However, there is no sensation in this statement; Yerevan only once again recorded its disappointment with the lack of real support for the CSTO in its confrontation with Azerbaijan. Arkady Dubnov, a well-known political analyst and expert on the Caucasus and Central Asia, wrote on his Telegram page.
"The important thing is that, Pashinyan said this in an interview with the French press following negotiations with French President Macron, Pashinyan said this in an interview to the French press after negotiations with French President Macron, as a result of which Paris promised Armenia supplies of "defense weapons".
Yerevan emphasizes that it is now forced to look for guarantors of its security in the West, having discovered that it is not possible to count on Russia and the CSTO led by it. So, will Armenia now leave the CSTO completely? They say in Yerevan that now the question is not about that, but when will it be? I think no sooner than Armenia will announce its readiness to deploy French military infrastructure on its territory (but not NATO's or the US's) on its territory. But in this case, this will contradict the CSTO charter, according to which such deployment is possible only in agreement with all members of the Organization. However, since this is unrealistic, then they will have to leave the CSTO...," Dubnov noted.
The political scientist recalled that in an interview with France Presse he noted, in particular, the following: "I have a feeling that Nikol Pashinyan is going all-in, demonstrating that he has found a serious military shoulder to rely on in the confrontation between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Pashinyan is playing a risky geopolitical game, shifting responsibility to Macron."
