ArmInfo.Azerbaijan purchasing weapons does not facilitate the establishment of regional stability, Secretary of Armenia's Security Council Armen Grigoryan told reporters on February 21.
At the same time, he added that this issue was repeatedly raised and discussed on their part.
"You know, we also proposed the introduction of arms control mechanisms, because we believe that this could become a process to establish peace and stability in the region. And we are guided by this agenda," he noted.
Regarding the possibility of concluding a peace treaty with Azerbaijan and the prospects for organizing new meetings with the Azerbaijani side, Grigoryan confirmed that a new meeting between Yerevan and Baku is planned.
"You know that at the meeting of the Prime Minister of Armenia with the President of Azerbaijan during the visit to Munich, an agreement was reached to hold meetings at the level of foreign ministers and deputy prime ministers. This issue is currently being discussed. There is no specific date and place yet," he said.
"As for the peace treaty," he continued, "we have received proposals from the Azerbaijani side and are working on them. I believe this can be discussed at a meeting of the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan. I can't say yet where this meeting will take place, since there are no specifics yet."
Speaking about the Armenian side's proposal for a mirror withdrawal of troops, Grigoryan noted that from the day when Yerevan publicly and privately presented the initiative, the issue was and remains on the agenda. According to him, the Armenian side will try to achieve the consent of Baku, since this is an issue that requires the consent of both parties.
"We are unequivocally convinced that a mirror withdrawal of troops is the best way to avoid incidents. This will be a stabilizing factor," he said.
