ArmInfo. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan calls the periodically circulated "corridor logic" thesis regarding the territory of Armenia a claim to the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Armenia.
"When we say that this is an encroachment on the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Armenia, they say that there is an internationally recognized thesis about the Northern Corridor, the Southern Corridor, and so on. The same Azerbaijan says that they also use this formulation in relation to communications passing through the territory of Iran, including for the transition from the eastern parts of Azerbaijan to Nakhichevan, as well as regarding the North-South corridor, which runs from Russia through Azerbaijan to Iran: And now, in order to get out of these verbal games, we say that we are ready to provide connections between Azerbaijan and Nakhichevan on the same terms on which Iran provides this connection, both by road and railway," Pashinyan said at a meeting of the action groups of the ruling party "Civil Contract" in Gavar.
He added that attempts are being made to refer to the statement of November 9, 2020 in this context. Meanwhile, as the Armenian prime minister pointed out, two of the three parties to the trilateral statement from the moment of its signing until September 2023, in fact, showed that this document does not exist for them. "The actions taken in Nagorno-Karabakh, with the participation of Russia and Azerbaijan, indicate that for them this document no longer exists. It cannot be that this document does not exist for the two parties to the trilateral declaration, but continues to exist for the third party," Pashinyan said.
He recalled that Azerbaijan states that, according to a statement dated November 9, they have ensured that "the so-called Zangezur corridor has been fixed" and that the Russian Federation will ensure the safety of these roads. "It is not stated anywhere that the Russian Federation must ensure the security of communications on any territory of the Republic of Armenia. On the contrary, it is written that the RA must provide, and this is natural. Who else should provide? Not to mention the fact that Azerbaijan has been developing the thesis of the "Zangezur corridor" for 3 years, referring to the trilateral statement. I promise a monetary reward to anyone who finds the expression about the "Zangezur corridor". But no one will receive this award, since there is simply no such expression in the tripartite statement," he said.
