ArmInfo. By the decision of the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, Armen Abazyan was reappointed director of the National Security Service of the republic.
Earlier it became known that Abazyan was relieved of his post by decree of the president and proposal of the Prime Minister of Armenia.
The dismissal and reassignment of the head of the National Security Service is due to amendments to the law "On Service in National Security Bodies," under which the director of the Service and his deputies are appointed not by the president, but by the prime minister.
Armen Abazyan was appointed to the post of Director of the National Security Service of Armenia on November 8, 2020 by decree of the then President of the Republic of Armenia Armen Sarkissian. Before that, from August 12, 2020, he served as deputy head of the intelligence service. On December 20, 2023, Abazyan was awarded the rank of lieutenant general by presidential decree.
