ArmInfo. The climate background in Armenia will have negative consequences in the context of water resources. This was stated during a press conference on December 29 by director of the Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center SNCO of the Ministry of Environment of Armenia Levon Azizyan.
In this regard, he mentioned: "If we were supposed to have a snow cover at the height of 1700 meters, today there is none. Instead of snow, it rains in mountainous regions, which will have a negative impact on water resources next year," he said.
Azizyan drew attention to the fact that there was a low temperature background in April and May, when this is the period of snow melting, accordingly, according to him, there was no significant flow and the snow gradually melted.
Summing up the results from the point of view of water resources, he noted that this year the level of water resource saturation in the country is 30-35% lower than that of a year ago. In particular, as of December 29, the water level in Sevan was 1900.17 m, which is 11 cm lower than last year's level. For irrigation purposes, from May 14 to September 14, the volume of water released from Sevan amounted to 228.234 million cubic meters of water, which is 63 million cubic meters higher than last year. From January 1 to December 27, the volume of water entering Lake Sevan through the Arpa-Sevan hydrotunnel was 113,647 million cubic meters, which is 48.8 million cubic meters less than in 2022.
The filling of 5 large reservoirs, monitored by the Center monitors, is currently 224 million cubic meters, which is 30 million cubic meters more than a year ago.
