ArmInfo. The role that Iran can play in ensuring regional security and stability was discussed in the meetings held in Yerevan. Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir- Abdollahian announced at a joint press conference with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan in Yerevan on Wednesday.
During his welcoming speech, the Iranian minister stated that Armenia is the only Christian neighbor of Iran.
"With best wishes, Happy New Year and Merry Christmas on behalf of my country and our parliament.
Today we held very important discussions with Minister Mirzoyan and Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan about cooperation between Tehran and Yerevan, as well as the role that Iran can play as an active factor and guarantor in achieving stability and peace in the region", the Iranian Foreign Minister noted.
At the same time, he emphasized that Iran supports the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Armenia.
"Iran has historical ties with its neighbor Armenia, and these relations are developing day by day. We attach great importance to the activities of our Consulate General here and today we expressed our consent to the opening of Armenia's Consulate General in Tabriz. We hope that in the first weeks of the New Year, together with my Armenian partner, we will witness the official opening ceremony of the Consulate General of Armenia in Tabriz," Amir-Abdollahian said.
At the same time, he once again positively assessed the further development of relations between the two countries and the dynamics of meetings at different levels. "We fully support the establishment of lasting peace in the South Caucasus and the activation of the North-South transit corridor. We welcome the project proposed by Mr. Nikol Pashinyan, which was presented as the "Crossroads of Peace" and are ready to consistently act for the development of the "North-South" transit route.
The Islamic Republic of Iran seeks peace and stability in the region, without interference from external forces. Only with the help of regional guarantors will it be possible to establish peace and security in all sectors," the Iranian Foreign Minister concluded.
