ArmInfo. Arthur Khachikian, PhD in International Relations, Stanford University, presented "a list of false promises and fairy tales spread over the past few years by a group of grant-eating propagandists in Armenia."
The political scientist listed 15 points of such promises and myths. The list was topped by the thesis that the visit of the head of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi means that the United States will help Armenia.
"The statements of French President Emmanuel Macron and his touching posts in Armenian about supporting the Armenians mean that France will help us," the expert noted, recalling that Macron himself said that there would be no sanctions, ignored the ethnic cleansing of Artsakh, and never visited Armenia , unlike Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, etc.
Another myth, according to the expert, is that the West will help Armenia, since it is a stronghold of democracy. In this vein, Khachikyan recalled that the West declared Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev its reliable and trusted partner.
"The decision of the Hague court to open the Lachin corridor and the pressure of the international community will help us. Meanwhile, the nine-month blockade of Artsakh went unnoticed, despite numerous requests for help," the expert added.
"Another thesis is that the West will help us if we are not allies of Russia and leave the CSTO. Meanwhile, France provided symbolic assistance, although we are still considered allies of Russia and are still in the CSTO. Azerbaijan is an official partner of Russia, but receives military help from the US. Georgia was not an ally of Russia, but did not receive help from the West during the 2008 war," Khachikyan further noted.
According to him, the assertion that the West will help Armenia in the same way as it helps Ukraine is also a myth. Khachikyan emphasized that the West provided much more serious assistance to Ukraine, 250 billion dollars and the most modern weapons, but is now abandoning Ukraine, leaving it alone with the enemy, saying that the money has run out.
"It is also a myth that European observers will help us, by their presence marking the border of Europe, ensuring our security. Meanwhile, European observers did not help either during the attack on Armenia itself in Sotq and other areas, or during the ethnic cleansing of Artsakh," continued the expert.
The political scientist also called the assertions that Turkey's "brotherly" assistance during the earthquake led to an improvement in relations a fairy tale. In this vein, he recalled that Turkey accepted help, and then helped Azerbaijan expel the Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh and took the same tough, anti-Armenian position.
"It is a myth and assertion that the West will not allow ethnic cleansing of Artsakh, as stated by representatives of the State Department and the European Parliament, since Western governments allowed the expulsion of Armenians and refused to admit that ethnic cleansing had occurred. Western governments ignored the blockade of Artsakh even after the famous Decampo report, which called what was happening genocide," Khachikyan further emphasized.
He also called untenable the thesis that the West will apply sanctions if there is an attack on Armenia or ethnic cleansing in Artsakh. The political scientist once again emphasized that Western governments have stated that there will be no sanctions.
"It is a myth that Artsakh must be surrendered in order to live peacefully with its neighbors. After all, after the death of Artsakh, the neighbors are making new demands on Armenia, including enclaves, corridors and the return of Azerbaijanis to the territory of Armenia," the expert stated.
According to him, the statement that the West will help Armenia if it continues its democratic course and the European vector is also empty. "The West silently accepted the ethnic cleansing of Armenians, did nothing to punish Azerbaijan, and declared that authoritarian Azerbaijan was its main ally in the Caucasus due to its oil resources," he added.
Khachikyan also considers the claims that France provided military assistance to Armenia to be a myth. "France sent Armenia combat vehicles that it abandoned 23 years ago, which Ukraine abandoned, which cannot protect personnel from shells, missiles or drones, and which are exported to the poorest African countries for peacekeeping and reconnaissance missions," the political scientist noted.
"The democratic West and the civilized world community - the future of Armenia - are also a myth. The democratic West provoked Ukraine into war, forced the Ukrainians to stop peace negotiations in the spring of 2020, and now left it to the mercy of fate. The West silently accepts the genocide of the Palestinian population, the extermination of civilians in its own territory, recognized by the UN back in 1947. The number of victims reaches 20,000, most of whom are children. The US government and the State Department continue to actively help the Israeli army, ignore the genocide of the Palestinians and block the attempts of the world community to stop the war," he noted.
And Khachikyan considers the fifteenth false thesis to be the assertion that a peace treaty with its neighbors will protect Armenia from war in the future. "The agreement of November 9, 2020 was violated only 3 years after its conclusion. The Minsk agreements of 2014 were violated six years later, and the leaders of Germany and France admitted that they used this time to prepare for a new war," he concluded.
