ArmInfo.Armenia intends to purchase Indian Akash surface- to-air anti-aircraft missile systems, reported by the EurAsian Times.
"Armenia has become one of the largest importers of Indian weapons. There have been reports that this South Caucasus country may purchase Indian Akash surface-to-air missiles (SAM). Although no one has officially confirmed this report yet due to the sensitivity of the situation, documents indicate that an order for it has already been placed," the message says.
The source notes that Akash is a short-range air defense system manufactured by Bharat Dynamics Limited for protection against air attacks. It can effectively hit helicopters, fighter jets and UAVs flying within a radius of 4-25 kilometers. The system is fully automated and has a quick response to target detection and destruction. It can be quickly transported by rail or road with prompt deployment. The total share of local content in the project is 82 percent, and this share will be increased to 93 percent by 2026-2027.
