ArmInfo.Despite the limited time, the United States will do everything possible to organize a meeting in Washington between the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan before the end of the year. James O'Brien, US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs , stated in an interview with Voice of America (VOA).
According to him, it is very important that the two countries talk to each other and reach practical agreements. "So they announce prisoners release last week, and now, just this week, the prisoners are now at home. And they issued a joint statement that indicated support for one another in many ways, including their international aspirations, for Azerbaijan to host the COP (the next UN Climate Change Conference ), to which they have now been awarded and hopefully both countries will benefit, and for Armenia's international aspirations as well," said the US Deputy Secretary of State.
He added that showing such support is an important step towards building normal bilateral relations. "We hope that very soon we will witness the parties reaching a peace agreement. Both sides have expressed interest in this. We, as well as our partners in the European Union and other parties, are ready to help. We would like to see this all end as soon as possible, since a speedy peace will bring enormous benefits," O'Brien emphasized.
The diplomat noted that the United States expressed its support to the two countries in concluding a peace agreement between them. "We have already held several rounds of peace talks between the two foreign ministers, and we would do it again if the parties decided that it would help them make peace. We are ready to help and encourage both sides to meet. At the moment, each of them has stated that they are ready to work to achieve this goal," the Deputy Secretary of State emphasized.
