ArmInfo. Baku does not agree with Yerevan's proposal for a 'mirror' withdrawal of troops from the border. As reported by the Azerbaijani media, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov stated today at a press conference following negotiations with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.
"There are open issues on the border with Armenia, which makes it impossible to withdraw troops. If there is no final agreement, then who can guarantee the security of these territories? The idea of withdrawing troops is unacceptable. Today the Azerbaijani army protects our borders," Bayramov said.
On December 13, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said that Baku and Yerevan are discussing the withdrawal of troops from the state border. "The issue of withdrawal of troops from the Armenian- Azerbaijani interstate border has been discussed and, I hope, that other measures will continue to be discussed. I cannot say that we have a final agreement, this is an idea that is being discussed," he noted.
