ArmInfo. Consultations with the Russian side regarding violations of the provisions of the agreement between Armenia and Russia, which regulates the broadcasting of Armenian TV channels in Russia and Russian ones in Armenia, will be held this year, Armenian Minister of High-Tech Industry Robert Khachatryan told a briefing on December 7.
He noted that there is no clear agreement yet on the day and time of the meeting, but assured that consultations will definitely take place this year. When asked whether the closure of Russian channels in Armenia is being discussed, Khachatryan noted that such an issue is not on the agenda. "It all depends on the progress of the consultations," he concluded.
Since December 30, 2020, an agreement on cooperation in the field of mass telecommunications has been in force between Armenia and Russia, which regulates the broadcasting of Armenian TV channels in Russia and Russian ones in Armenia. The agreement contains clear provisions on the unacceptability of interference by the parties in the internal affairs of countries and destabilization of the internal political situation.
As part of a press conference at the end of November this year, Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan said that taking into account the friendly relations between Armenia and Russia and the current situation, the Ministry of High-Technological Industry invited the Russian side for consultations through an official letter. "This is necessary so that we discuss the current situation and understand what the consequences and solutions may be. And I hope that these consultations will take place as quickly as possible so that we can resolve this issue in a normal working and friendly environment," he said.
