Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of the Republic of Armenia Gnel Sanosyan said on December 6, from the rostrum of parliament during the government hour, answering a question from pro-government MP Aren Mkrtchyan.
He noted that the re-election of the head of the community took place strictly in accordance with the laws of the country, but what happened after them, in particular, blocking exits from the city administration building, overturning a ballot box and other illegal actions require special investigation.
Sanosyan noted that in accordance with the requirements of the law in Alaverdi, a vote of no confidence was expressed to the current mayor and a new head of the city administration was elected.
The Minister stressed the importance of ensuring that the country's 71 communities do not remain ungovernable, that is, that the community has a leader, and that the work of the Council of Elders progresses normally.
Yesterday, the Council of Elders of the Alaverdi community expressed no confidence in the head of the community Arkady Tamazyan. David Ghumashyan, head of the faction of the ruling Civil Contract party, was elected as the new mayor. 14 out of 27 members of the Council of Elders voted for Tamazyan's resignation. Tamazyan stated that the meeting began in violation of the law. During the meeting, a tense situation arose in the hall, a fight broke out, the police pushed the co-founders of the Aprelu Yerkir party Mesrop Arakelyan and Arkady Tamazyan, back from the square in front of the mayor's office. In the elections held in Alaverdi on September 25, 2022, Civil Contract and "Aprelu Yerkr received 13 mandates each - none of them exceeded the 50 percent threshold. The Aprelu Yerkir formed a coalition with the "Armenian National Congress" party, which received only one mandate, and the council of elders elected a representative of the party, Tamazyan, as mayor. Starting from July 28 of this year, theCivil Contractfaction, without participating in meetings of the Council of Elders, did not provide a quorum. At the initiative of the party, a meeting was convened on December 5, at which no confidence was expressed towards the head of the community.
