ArmInfo.Armenia's authorities do not care about human fates, Tigran Abrahamyan of the opposition parliamentary faction wrote on his Facebook account.
According to him, since the 44-day war in Artsakh in 2020, according to various estimates, there are 8-9 dozen Armenian prisoners in Baku prisons. Despite the fact that various videos contain real data about the presence of a large number of prisoners in Azerbaijan, official Baku still does not confirm the fact that many of them were captured.
"The current authorities of Armenia, if at some stage they turned the issue of repatriation of prisoners in Azerbaijani prisons into an imitation and other campaign, now they do not talk about it at all, and do not carry out any specific work in this direction. They do not care about human fate," the parliamentarian wrote.
Yesterday at a press conference, international law specialist Siranush Sahakyan said that at the moment there are 55 Armenians officially detained in Azerbaijan.
"Of course, they all have different statuses: prisoners of war, civilians held captive and persons held for political reasons. In particular, 6 civilians held hostage; 41 prisoners of war and 8 former political or military figures who are considered political prisoners ", the human rights activist explained, adding that this is only official data.
According to her, in addition, the Azerbaijani side captured over 80 civilians and military personnel, but nothing is being done to clarify their fate. Sahakyan stated that the first group, officially confirmed, is in a more protected position, unlike the second group. "Since 2021, there have been no recorded cases when Azerbaijan has officially confirmed the fact of holding persons captured during the 44-day war," she said.
