ArmInfo. On November 29, members of the Lithuania- Armenia parliamentary friendship group, who are on a three-day visit to Armenia, accompanied by the head of the Armenia-Lithuania friendship group of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Arsen Torosyan, visited the border territories of the Yeraskh community of Ararat region.
As the press service of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia reports, the deputies were greeted by representatives of the European Union observation mission, who presented the situation in the border areas of Yeraskh to the Lithuanian deputies. The guests, accompanied by observers, visited that part of the border area where it was planned to build a metallurgical plant with Armenian-American investments. Construction work at the plant was stopped due to shelling by the Azerbaijani armed forces.
The EU civilian mission was deployed to Armenia on February 20, 2023. The mandate of the EU observation mission in Armenia is to monitor and report on events in the border regions of Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Earlier, RA Minister of Economy Vahan Kerobyan reported that the metallurgical enterprise under construction in Yeraskh would be moved to another location, but it would be located not far from the previous one. The head of the department emphasized that the unstable situation continues to be an obstacle to investment and economic projects in Armenia. They started talking about a possible postponement of the construction of the plant in Yeraskh in September. This was preceded by numerous direct fire attacks on the plant, which was being built, among other things, with American money.
The owners of the plant are the American companies Virtual Funding and CESI Global Investments (through the GTB Steel company). On July 14, they addressed a joint statement to Azerbaijan, warning that if the Azerbaijani Armed Forces resumed shelling in the direction of unarmed workers, they would regard this as a direct blow to American capital.
