ArmInfo. RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan received Tobias Kayel and Johan Rabe, representatives of the German architectural company Gerkan, Marg & Partners. Issues related to the design of the Academic City were discussed at the meeting.
Reference was made to the studies carried out in the area of the Academic City, the upcoming steps, in particular, the development of the master plan for the construction of the Academic City, ensuring the functionality of the clusters, infrastructure and other issues.
Prime Minister Pashinyan highlighted the implementation of the Academic City project and emphasized that it is of strategic importance for the Armenian government. It was agreed to continue the work according to the relevant schedule. It was initially planned that the Academic City would be built in Ashtarak. Later it was announced that the Academic City would be built on the territory located between the communities of Ashtarak and Proshyan. Up to 8 universities with all their infrastructure will be located in the Academic City. A preliminary plan for the city has already been developed, according to which all the necessary conditions for students and teaching staff will be created there. Residential areas, research centers, sports infrastructure, a park and an amphitheater will also be built in the city, in addition to the universities. The city will be designed for 50 thousand people. Earlier it was reported that funds for the construction of the city would be raised from funds received from the sale of buildings of existing state universities.
