ArmInfo.Spokesperson of the RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ani Badalyan commented on the statement of official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova that the border guard service of the Russian FSS should carry out control over the communications between Azerbaijan and Nakhichevan.
"The Government of the Republic of Armenia recently published the "Crossroads of the Peace" project, the basic principles of which make it clear that in the event of opening regional communications, the Republic of Armenia will implement border and customs control in its territory through its state institutions. In addition, a special department was recently established in the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia, whose task, in the event of the opening of regional communications, is to ensure the security of these communications, as well as the goods, cargo, vehicles and people transported through them. The Republic of Armenia has never agreed in any document to any limitation of its sovereignty, and control of a third country cannot be established over any part of its sovereign territory," Ani Badalyan noted.
Today, during a briefing, Maria Zakharova stated that Yerevan's "Crossroads of the Peace" initiative is in many ways consonant with the project that has been discussed over the past years within the framework of a tripartite working group co-chaired by the vice-prime ministers of Armenia, Russia and Azerbaijan. The representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized that Moscow stands ready to assist in the processes of unblocking regional communications, including on the basis of the provisions of trilateral high-level statements of November 9, 2020 and January 11, 2021, where the role of the Russian Federation is clearly stated. Answering the question about the establishment of special division of the National Security Service of Armenia by decision of the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, to protect communications in this direction, Zakharova noted that in accordance with the above-mentioned tripartite statements, the border guard service of the Russian FSS should carry out control over the communications between Azerbaijan and Nakhichevan
