ArmInfo.German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock reiterated the commitment of the European Union and Germany to support Azerbaijan and Armenia in their quest for peace. She stated at a press conference held on November 4 in Baku, after negotiations with her Azerbaijani counterpart Jeyhun Bayramov.
Baerbock emphasized that any peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia should be based on the principle of respect for the territorial integrity of both peoples. As she noted, during her visit to Armenia she had the opportunity to meet with people who came from conflict-ridden Nagorno-Karabakh and expressed a desire to return. She stressed the importance of facilitating their safe return and stressed the EU's readiness to support confidence-building measures between the two countries.
In turn, Bayramov, in his speech according to tradition, placed responsibility for th exodus of the Armenian population directly on the leadership of Artsakh and the authorities of Armenia, accusing them of "many years of inciting inter-ethnic tension."
Then he started talking about some 'constructive efforts' after the aggression carried out against the NKR on September 19-20 and allegedly meeting with the people of Artsakh, as well as about "providing humanitarian assistance, restoring electricity supply and providing access to the UN mission, international organizations and foreign diplomats in the region."
Bayramov confirmed Azerbaijan's readiness for peaceful negotiations with Armenia. He recalled that he recently held negotiations with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia in Tehran within the framework of the 3+3 format. Azerbaijan has put forward proposals for a peace treaty and is currently awaiting a response from Yerevan.
"Baku expressed a generally positive position regarding the negotiations in the Brussels format. Azerbaijan remains open to negotiations in various formats and places if such flexibility can help advance the peace process," Bayramov said, Turan reports.
During her visit, Baerbock also raised issues related to human rights, stressing that both Azerbaijan and Germany, as members of the Council of Europe, are obliged to fulfill their obligations in this matter.
