ArmInfo.Armenian poet, leader of the armed French resistance against the Nazis during World War II, Missak Manouchian, will be reburied in the Paris Pantheon. French Minister of Culture Rima Abdul Malak announced during a press conference on October 26.
"This is an unprecedented event, since Missak Manouchian will be the first foreigner buried in the Paris Pantheon," she said.
Quoting a statement by French President Emmanuel Macron, the minister emphasized that Missak Manouchian is part of the greatness of France and personifies the French ideology and value system. "Therefore, we are obliged to call him this way," she stated.
During the press conference, it was stated that the reburial will take place on February 21, 2024. This is a symbolic date, since 80 years ago, on February 21, 1944, he was shot in the prison of Fort Mont Valerien along with twenty comrades in the fight against the Nazi occupation.
