ArmInfo. Yerevan aims to deepen relations with the EU, but in no way wants to contrast these relations with regional cooperation and regional vision. RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated on October 17 in Strasbourg at a press conference with President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola.
According to Pashinyan, Armenia's relations with the EU are based on a common system of values. "Democracy for the Republic of Armenia is a strategic choice, and not a choice dictated by circumstances," he said.
As the Prime Minister indicated, Armenia is committed to the full implementation of the Armenia-EU Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA). "I am sure that the EU and Armenia have not exhausted the opportunity to bring and expand relations to a new level. A security component has also been added to EU-Armenia relations in the form of the EU civilian mission, which monitors the state border of Armenia with Azerbaijan," he noted.
According to Pashinyan, today it is obvious that there is a consensus in the EU regarding the deepening of relations with Armenia. He recalled that Yerevan recently ratified the Rome Statute, as well as Protocol No. 13 to the Convention, abolishing the death penalty in all circumstances.
Nikol Pashinyan there are issues that Armenia needs urgent EU support to resolve, in particular in addressing humanitarian problems arising as a result of forcibly displaced persons from Nagorno- Karabakh.
