ArmInfo. The Republic faction at the Yerevan Council of Elders voted for formation of authorities in Armenia's capital, faction member Artak Zeinalyan told reporters on Tuesday.
According to him, the main goal of the party was to resolve the current situation in the Council of Elders. "We voted in favor of the independence and sovereignty of Armenia," Zeynalyan said. He avoided answering the question of whether he would be offered the position of vice-mayor of the Armenian capital. "All this will be discussed during the briefing," noted a member of the "Republic" faction.
Today the "Republic" and "Civil Agreement" factions signed a memorandum of cooperation, according to which the parties undertake to turn the capital of Armenia into a city with a European model, to make it convenient and cozy.
"We will govern the city together and share responsibility," said the newly elected mayor of Yerevan Tigran Avinyan after signing the document. He also avoided answering the question of whether Zeynalyan would be appointed vice-mayor of Yerevan, calling to wait for the next meeting of the Council of Elders, at which a corresponding decision is expected to be made.
