ArmInfo. The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, discussed the situation around Artsakh with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan. Borrell announced this on his microblog on Twitter.
"I had the opportunity to exchange views with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. We spoke about the next steps in EU-Turkey relations ahead of the report that I will present to the EU Commission at the European Council. We also discussed the highly concerning situation in Nagorno-Karabakh," he said.
Later, Borrell also wrote that Azerbaijan bears the responsibility to ensure full respect for the rights and security of the Karabakh Armenians. " The use of force to resolve disputes is not acceptable We note the announcements of a ceasefire and expect the cessation of hostilities to hold," he said.
We also add that yesterday Borrell made a statement on the situation around Artsakh. Information was leaked to the media that this statement was supposed to be made by all EU member states, however, at the last moment, Hungary vetoed the document, which is why Borrell was forced to disseminate it only on his own behalf. On September 19, Azerbaijan, under the pretext of an anti-terrorist operation, undertook another act of aggression against Artsakh. As a result of enemy aggression, hundreds of Artsakh residents were injured, more than 200 were reported killed, including civilians, more than 400 were wounded, and another 7,000 were evacuated. On September 20, Artsakh fell. Azerbaijan began the forcible subjugation of the NKR. Thousands of Artsakh civilians are now at the deployment point of the Russian peacekeeping contingent in Ivanyan. There are reports that Azerbaijan is not allowing them to be evacuated to Armenia.
