Armenia`s premier explains phone calls to foreign leaders

There is tension on the Armenia-Azerbaijan border because Azerbaijan has certain build-ups of  troops, it also has build-ups around Nagorno-Karabakh, Armenia's Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said in an interview with the Public Television, adding that the evaluations given in the previous session  of the Government have not changed today.

On September 7, at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, Pashinyan  said that last week the military- political situation in the South  Caucasus had significantly worsened, which was due to the  accumulation of Azerbaijani troops along the line of contact with  Nagorno-Karabakh and on the border with Armenia.

The policy of encroachment on the sovereign territory of Armenia  continues, the head of government also said. Recalling that on  September 1, the Azerbaijani Armed Forces launched another  provocation against the sovereign territory of the Republic of  Armenia in the Sotk section of the Gegharkunik region, as a result of  which 3 servicemen of the Armenian Ministry of Defense were killed,  as well as the ongoing illegal blockade of the Lachin corridor by  Azerbaijan, the Armenian Prime Minister noted that with the latest  actions Baku is demonstrating its intention to undertake a new  military provocation against Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh. At the  same time, he reiterated his commitment to the peace agenda and his  readiness to sign a peace agreement with Azerbaijan.

As to the reason that the addressee of the first of Armenia's Prime  Minister's calls to foreign partners was not the Russian President,  Mr Pashinyan said: 

"The first of the phone calls was to the President of the Russian  Federation, there were also calls to those colleagues who were not  informed or were not aware of the nuances. The President of the  Russian Federation is aware of the situation. The situation of the  illegal blocking of the Lachin Corridor and the humanitarian crisis  began last December. From December until now, I have had dozens of  conversations with the President of the Russian Federation, and with  others there is information related to the new situation that needs  to be shared. Unfortunately, the situation has not changed since our  last conversation, so that there were a need for a new conversation."
