ArmInfo.Cypriot Defense Michalis Giorgallas said in X that he had a telephone conversation with his Armenian counterpart Suren Papikyan after the cancellation of the latter's visit to Cyprus. According to Mr. Giorgallas, the visit was canceled due to the worsening situation in Armenia.
"I had today a telephone conversation with my Armenian counterpart following the cancellation of his planned visit to Cyprus, due to the escalation of the situation in Armenia. We confirmed the excellent relations between our two countries as well as our excellent cooperation in the Tripartite scheme with #Greece in the fields of defence and security. I expressed my undivided support to the people of Armenia. It is our mutual desire to meet in the near future and as soon as the circumstances permit," he wrote.
Earlier today, at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that last week the military-political situation in the South Caucasus worsened significantly, which was due to the accumulation of Azerbaijani troops along the line of contact with Nagorno-Karabakh and on the border with Armenia. Recalling the ongoing illegal blockade of the Lachin corridor and another provocation on September 1 in the Sotk section of the Gegharkunik region, which resulted in the death of 3 servicemen of the Armenian Ministry of Defense, Pashinyan noted that with its latest actions Baku demonstrates its intention to undertake a new military provocation against Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh. "The situation is such that the international community, the member countries of the UN Security Council must take the most serious measures to prevent a new explosion in the region," the head of the RA Cabinet emphasized.
