Azerbaijan arrested for ten days three citizens of Artsakh (Alen Sargsyan, born in 2001, Vahe Hovsepyan, born in 2003, and Levon Grigoryan), abducted on August 28 from an illegal checkpoint in the Kashatagh (Lachin) corridor. Let us recall that the guys, accompanied by Russian peacekeepers, were traveling from the besieged Artsakh to Armenia to continue their studies in the RA universities.
The General Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan first charged them with "committing insulting actions against the State Flag of Azerbaijan", while a a criminal case was initiated under Articles 283.2.3 (Incitement of national, racial, social or religious hatred and enmity committed by an organized group) and 324 (Desecration of the State Flag or the State Emblem of the Republic of Azerbaijan) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan. And allegedly the case was closed due to the age of the accused and their admission of guilt.
"The right to defense of the persons involved in the investigation was ensured. During the interrogation, they admitted to committing this act and stated that they sincerely repent and would not commit such actions in the future.
Taking into account the age of the accused and their sincere repentance with a frank confession, in compliance with the requirements of the criminal procedure legislation, applying the principle of humanism, the criminal prosecution against them was terminated," the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan said.
At the same time, according to the same report, young people were arrested for a period of 10 days, allegedly for posting a video desecrating the state flag of Azerbaijan. "After the execution of the court's decision, the deportation of these persons from the borders of the Republic of Azerbaijan will be ensured," the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan said in a statement.
