ArmInfo.Possible ways of solving the humanitarian needs of Artsakh Armenians were actively discussed with the offices of the UN World Food Program. This is stated in the answer of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the question of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL).
"From the very first day of Azerbaijan's illegal blocking of the Kashatagh (Lachin) corridor, the Armenian Foreign Ministry has been consistently working with international organizations to remove the blockade of the corridor within their mandates and provide humanitarian assistance to the population of Nagorno- Karabakh," the RA Foreign Ministry said in a response.
As to whether Armenia is taking any concrete steps to deliver aid to the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh by air, through the UN food agency or Russian peacekeepers in the conditions when Azerbaijan has been prohibiting the transportation of any humanitarian cargo from Armenia through the Kashatagh corridor for more than a month and there is an acute shortage of food in Artsakh, the Foreign Ministry noted in particular: "With the Yerevan and regional offices of the UN World Food Program (WFP), within the competence of the latter, possible ways were actively discussed addressing the humanitarian needs of Artsakh Armenians".
According to the agency, the issue was also discussed during the visit to Yerevan in April of the Regional Director for the Middle East, North Africa and Eastern Europe of the UN World Food Programme.
In this context, the Armenian Foreign Ministry emphasizes that Azerbaijan constantly prevents the entry of UN agencies and other international structures into Nagorno-Karabakh.
"Under the coordination of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, other responsible departments of the Republic of Armenia are also in direct contact with the leadership of the World Food Program. The above works are of an ongoing nature, and the public will be informed about the results in the prescribed manner," the official statement reads.
