ArmInfo.Azerbaijan's demands towards Armenia are increasing day by day. As they say, appetite comes with eating.
As it became known today from some Azerbaijani media, the government of Azerbaijan has officially appealed to Armenia with a demand to stop the construction of a large metallurgical plant in Yeraskh, Ararat region of the Republic of Armenia. A corresponding letter was sent by Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan Mukhtar Babayev to the Minister of Environment of Armenia.
In the letter, the Azerbaijani side assures that the work of metallurgical plants is recognized as a type of activity "which can cause a significant negative transboundary impact."
Further more, it turned out that Armenia was also obliged to inform Azerbaijan about the construction of this plant in advance. Although the basis for this assertion remains unclear.
The letter also says that " at the initial stage, Azerbaijan requires Armenia to exchange information and discuss the negative transboundary impact of the project and immediately stop the construction of the plant by Armenia until the issues related to the transboundary impact of the project are fully clarified and adequately considered," the Azerbaijani side said.
A corresponding appeal was also sent to the Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Europe of the United Nations, and later it was mentioned in the message of the Cabinet of Ministers. It should be noted that the plant is being built in Yeraskh with American investments. Azerbaijan has repeatedly shelled the plant under construction. As a result of hostile actions, two Indian citizens involved in its construction were injured.
