ArmInfo. The U.S. is enthusiastic about the latest discussions between Armenia and Turkey, U.S. Ambassador to Armenia Kristina Kvien said in an interview with the Public TV of Armenia as she commented on the Armenia-Turkey normalization and reopening of borders.
The negotiations took place both between the national leaders and special envoys, which are evidence of rapprochement.
The U.S. is strongly for normalization of relations. The U.S. believes that it will be of great benefit to Armenia and bring stability to the region and to the relations between the countries. In this context, Ms Kvien appreciated Armenia's help to Turkey after a recent devastating earthquake in Turkey.
The Armenian and Turkish Special Envoys, Ruiben Rubinyan and Serdar Kilic, held negotiations in different capitals of the world. They confirmed that the ultimate goal of the negotiations is a rapprochement between Armenia and Turkey, with a relevant agreement reached at their first meeting in Moscow, Russia,, on January 14, 2022.
Turkish FM Melvut Cavusoglu announced the normalization process on December 13, 2021. He stressed Ankara will coordinate its actions with Baku.
The sides have agreed to reopen the Armenian-Turkish border for third countries' citizens and resumed air communication.
