ArmInfo. On June 30, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Armenia Mnatsakan Safaryan received the delegation headed by James O'Brien, the Head of the Office of Sanctions Coordination at the State Department. The Director General of Economics, Science and Technology of the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office Kumar Iyer was also part of the delegation.
As the RA MFA reports, during the meeting, Mnatsakan Safaryan and James O'Brien discussed a set of issues regarding the economic cooperation between Armenia and the U.S., as well as commended the development of the Armenia-U.S. dialogue dynamics.
The counterparts stressed the importance of regular meetings and constructive dialogue.
It should be reminded that earlier the press service of the U.S. Embassy in Armenia reported that Head of the Office of Sanctions Coordination at the State Department, Ambassador James O'Brien, during his visit to Armenia on June 29-30, will meet with high-ranking officials of Armenia, including the Prime Minister and discuss cooperation under U.S. sanctions and express U.S. gratitude to Armenia for its commitment to enforce them.
However, after meeting with the Armenian prime minister, the press service of the head of the cabinet stated that they discussed regional and international processes, the humanitarian crisis in Artsakh, Azerbaijan's provocative and aggressive actions on the line of contact with Nagorno-Karabakh and the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, and the settlement of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, Yerevan and Ankara. Not a word was said about cooperation within the framework of U.S. sanctions.
