ArmInfo.Yerevan is for the withdrawal of troops by Armenia and Azerbaijan from the borderline based on the maps of the USSR General Staff of 1975. These are the maps Russia spoke of earlier, Armenia's Premier Nikol Pashinyan told a press conference on May 22.
"In the current situation it means stability. I should note with satisfaction that we see the international community is perceiving it in the same way," he said.
He stressed he does not see any progress in Azerbaijan's position - at least now. "It is no secret that Baku continues its policy of military pressure thereby seeking further advantage at the negotiations. But it is a violation of international commitments," Mr Pashinyan stressed. Withdrawal of troops by Afrmenia and Azerbaijan does not predetermine delimitation process - it is a measure to improve security.
"The maps of 1975 could and must be the basis for further delimitation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border - and the Prague agreements of October 6, 2022, on delimitation based on the Almaty declaration provide for that," Mr Pashinyan said.
The politico-military situation in the region remains tense. Armenia's government believes pushing ahead with the peace agenda is the only way of defusing the tension. Most active negotiations with Baku are in progress now for as peace agreement to be agreed on and signed. The international community is more and more inclined to believe that Armenia and Azerbaijan must recognize each other's territorial integrity without any preconditions, and Stepanakert and Baku must start a dialogue to ensure the Nagorno- Karabakh Armenians' rights.
"We agree and we are negotiating following this logic, highlighting the importance of international mechanisms guaranteeing a dialogue between Stepanakert and Baku," Armenia's premier said.
