ArmInfo. The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry has responded to today's statement by RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan regarding the establishment of a checkpoint (checkpoint) by Azerbaijan on the Hakari bridge in the Berdzor/Lachin corridor, the only road linking Armenia with Nagorno-Karabakh.
"Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's statement that the establishment of a border checkpoint on the Lachin road pursues the goal of "ethnic cleansing" is unacceptable and absurd," the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said in a commentary in response to Pashinyan's statements.
The Foreign Ministry of this country noted that "any interference by the Armenian side in the establishment of a border checkpoint by Azerbaijan on its "sovereign" territory is an encroachment on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, and this is contrary to the obligations of Armenia taken in Prague and Sochi, as well as the norms and principles of international law. "Such statements by the Armenian side not only do not contribute to peace and tranquility in the region, but are aimed at increasing tensions," the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry emphasizes, once again making far-fetched accusations against Yerevan about using the Lachin corridor "for illegal activities, transporting ammunition and mines".
Official Baku also reacted to Pashinyan's statement on the need to deploy an urgent international fact- finding mission in the Lachin corridor and Nagorno-Karabakh, and on international mechanisms for dialogue between Stepanakert and Baku, noting that "the Azerbaijani side will carry out a dialogue with "Armenian residents" within the framework of the country's legislation, and the intervention of third parties in this matter is unacceptable>.
