ArmInfo. Canadian FM Melanie Joly spoke of the blockade of Artsakh at a regular meeting of the Canadian Parliament.
Jean Lee Yip, a member of the Liberal Party, stated that the members of the Armenian community are concerned over the rising tensions between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and the conflict in Nagorno- Karabakh. She reminded the MPs that the Lachin corridor has been blockaded over 100 days, a growing humanitarian crisis and Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh are fearing that the conflict may soon escalate. Addressing the FM she asked her to inform the House of the government's efforts "on this important issue."
In response, Minister Joly said: "I would like to thank my colleague for an important issue. I share the concerns of Armenian Canadians and Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh. We continue to call on Azerbaijani authorities to reopen the Lachin corridor. We need to prevent the worsening of the humanitarian crisis. Canada supports the 2020 ceasefire agreement, including the return of Armenian prisoners of war. It is important that the ceasefire, which is supported by the EU monitoring group be respected."
