ArmInfo. The so-called Zangezur corridor (via Armenia's Syunik province) is of no global communication importance, and is nothing but a Turkic ideological project with Anglo-Saxon geopolitical interests, Armen Ashotyan, Vice-Chairman of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), has stated.
At a recent meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Turkic States in Ankara, Azerbaijani FM Jeyhun Bayramov linked the idea of "Zangezur corridor" to the Middle Corridor.
The Middle East is a route supposed to connect Europe with Asia. In this context, Mr Ashotyan proposes finding out the reasons for the Azerbaijani FM "packing the Pan-Turkic dream" into global communication projects.
"I have repeatedly proved that the Zangezur corridor (via Armenia's Syunik province) is of no global communication importance, and is nothing but a Turkic ideological project with Anglo-Saxon geopolitical interests. No wonder Azerbaijan is seizing any opportunity to draw serve its strategic goal under the veil of an 'international' idea," Mr Ashotyan said.
Amid the Moscow-West confrontation, the communications bypassing Russia are more attractive to Western economies.
"Azerbaijan is expected to attempt to pose as a new logistical hub between the West and the East by pedaling the idea of the Zangezur corridor.
"The Chinese One Belt One Road initiative includes the Middle Corridor as one of its routes. So obvious is Azerbaijan's desire to pack its geopolitical plans into the forms China is familiar with," Mr Ashotyan said.
