ArmInfo. The West does not force Armenia to commit certain actions. On February 14, Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia Armen Grigoryan stated this to journalists, commenting on thedeployment of a group of civilian observers from the countries of the European Union to the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.
According to the Secretary of the Security Council, the decision to invite observers from the EU was made by the Armenian side, based on the experience of May and November 2021, as well as September 2022, when Azerbaijan committed aggression against the sovereign territory of Armenia. <Based on the fact that the existing security guarantees do not work, Yerevan invited the civilian mission of the European Union in order to create some kind of security guarantee. These guarantees are limited not only to the military component, even economic partnerships can provide some elements of security >, the Secretary of the Security Council emphasized. Speaking about the negative reaction of the Russian Federation against this initiative, Grigoryan noted that he cannot speak on behalf of Moscow. He said that Yerevan periodically discusses all problematic issues with Moscow. "We periodically present the position of the Armenian side and explain why we are taking this or that step. When we say that the reason is in our experience, we point to attacks by Azerbaijan on the sovereign territory of Armenia, and this danger remains. To neutralize the threat, we need to create certain international guarantees, what we are working on now.," Grigoryan noted. -
