ArmInfo. The Russian Foreign Ministry commented on the statement of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan regarding the motives for deploying an EU monitoring mission in the territory of the Republic of Armenia.
So, on February 10, at a weekly briefing on a request to comment on the statements of the Armenian prime minister, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, in particular, said: " "If with such statements an attempt is made to justify bringing the EU to the region, then that attempt can be considered successful. Russian peacekeepers ensure peace in Nagorno-Karabakh. Our servicemen and border guards serve on the territory of Armenia, including in the Armenian-Azerbaijani border."
At the same time, she added that Moscow had never heard Baku's fears and claims in this regard.
"At the same time, we are aware of Azerbaijan's critical attitude towards the EU's decision to deploy its observation mission in Armenia. You see, everything is not as you have formulated," the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry said with irony.
According to her, it is obvious that Brussels aims to change the security system that has developed in the region. " The presence of Russian servicemen and border guards, as well as Armenia's membership in the CSTO, and, of course, the spirit, political will that was shown in the implementation of the agreements that were reached between Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia, are its cornerstones, " the diplomat said.
I really want to believe, Zakharova continued, that Yerevan understands and takes this into account.
At the same time, the diplomat stressed that Russia is open for dialogue with Armenian partners on improving measures to maintain stability in the Transcaucasus, both in bilateral and multilateral formats, including relevant developments within the CSTO.
It should be noted that on February 8, RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan from the rostrum of the Parliament, referring to the reasons for the deployment of a new EU mission in Armenia, noted that Baku is trying to justify its aggression towards Armenia on many Western international platforms by announcing that the RA Prime Minister, by increasing the grouping of Russian troops near the borders of Azerbaijan, together with the Armenian Armed Forces, , is allegedly preparing to carry out "aggression" against Azerbaijan, and that is why Baku "is forced to" seize the heights in order to balance the situation.
"Our Western partners tell us how it is possible, you want to seize the lands of Azerbaijan, to which we have taken the initiative to deploy observers," the prime minister said. He added that there is no geopolitical subtext in relations with the CSTO and the EU, there is a political agenda, and a specific problemthat official Yerevan is trying to resolve.
