ArmInfo.Ambassador of Iran to Armenia Abbas Badakhshan Zohouri presented Tehran's deployment of a new EU civilian mission in Armenia.
Thus, on February 9, on the sidelines of the conference on the topic "Armenian-Iranian Relations in the Context of Common Interests", in an interview with journalists, in response to a request to express Tehran's position on deployment of a new EU civilian mission in Armenia, which will include French gendarmes, Zohouri stressed that Iran's position is as follows: "Regional problems should be solved with the participation of the countries of the region. Despite the fact that other countries can make their contribution in terms of ensuring peace and security in the region. Only the solution of problems with the participation of the countries of the region through dialogue and discussions can provide peace".
As ArmInfo previously reported, on January 23, the EU Council approved the deployment of new EU civilian mission inArmenia for a period of two years. The operational headquarters will be located in Armenia. The Civil Mission Commander will be Stefano Tomat, Managing Director of the Civilian Planning and Conduct Capability (CPCC). In the near future, a Head of Mission will be appointed to lead operations in the field. The goal of mission is to help stabilize the situation on the ground. Russia reacted negatively to this EU decision. Let us add that on February 8, French MEP Natalie Loiseau said that the EU civil mission would arrive in Armenia on February 20. At the same time, she noted that France would provide the mission with eight gendarmes.
