ArmInfo. Russia is on the verge of losing one of its two remaining allies, Armenia. And if we do not save Armenia as an ally, then the prospect of Russia's foreign policy will be very gloomy and it is possible that this will lead to the formation of a second front against us in the Caucasus.
Nikolai Platoshkin, a well-known political scientist in Russia, a retired diplomat, head of the Department of International Relations and Diplomacy at the Moscow University for the Humanities, expressed this opinion yeseday.
Platoshkin criticized the Russian Foreign Ministry, which, according to him, when asked by Armenia about the reasons for not obstructing the blockade of the Lachin corridor, "did not find anything better than to engage in a public squabble with its ally." <Turkey, Azerbaijan and Israel are doing everything to humiliate Russia. And now, taking advantage of this, the Western countries say to Armenia: "What is the use of your allies. They will not help, come to us, we will help, if anything>, Platoshkin said.
According to him, one should understand that if Armenia goes to the West, then an anti-Russian front will be established in the South Caucasus, and then, perhaps, the West will have an idea to resume the 1990s in the North Caucasus. And then no one will interfere with this, because Armenia will be defeated and transferred to the western camp. " Not to mention that our troops will be thrown out of the Caucasus in disgrace," the politician warned.
The political scientist does not believe that Russia does not have levers of influence on the "presumptuous" Erdogan and Aliyev. And the point is not for Russia to open its second front in the South Caucasus, but to prevent the opening of a second front against itself. According to the diplomat, "a politician thinks about the next elections, while a statesman is obliged to think about the next generation", so the so-called "pragmatism" of Russian politicians regarding the situation in the South Caucasus is not appropriate and dangerous.
Now, according to his conviction, it turns out that Russia is leaving Armenia, which, in fact, is the case. As a result of such a line, for the first time in the history of post-Soviet relations, Armenia refused to conduct CSTO military exercises on its territory and did so quietly, without ultimatums, and this happens despite the fact that Armenia, unlike Russia, has always been faithful to its alliance obligations both within the framework of bilateral relations and the CSTO.
The diplomat subjected to pejorative criticism those who today view relations between Russia and Armenia through the prism of Nikol Pashinyan's personality, those who took the path of revenge for the fact that Pashinyan overthrew the regime, which was considered a "friend of the Kremlin". <Well, you can't be that short-sighted. To Hell with Him, Pashinyan. People like Pashinyan come and go. Now millions of Armenians are looking at Russia and thinking: <if the Russians sell us now, then what will we do with them later?>, the diplomat noted, stressing that <the most important thing here is that Armenia was the only country where all parties no matter how they quarreled over domestic politics, advocated close allied relations with Russia and not at the level of empty chatter, but in fact, always supporting Russia in all its undertakings. Platoshkin also noted the most important factor for Russia in the presence of a large and influential global Armenian Diaspora. <Millions of Armenians live here, and not only those who have come here in recent years, but those who have lived here for centuries, historically, in the same Krasnodar Territory for 30 years. The Armenian Diaspora is extremely influential in many countries of the world, including the USA, and Armenia, understanding Russia's role for the Armenian state, has always remained loyal to it. "Now the Diaspora will be on the side of those who extend a helping hand to Armenia. And this, apparently, is not the Russian Federation," the diplomat concluded.
