ArmInfo. After the meetings in Yerevan on December 8, EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus Toivo Klaar left for Istanbul. According to foreign media, Klaar himself does not report what the goals of his visit to Istanbul are. We only note that Toivo Klaar himself wrote on his Twitter page: "Short but substantive meetings yesterday in Yerevan with Prime
Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan and Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan. Now off to Istanbul". Whether he will then visit Baku is also unknown.
It should be noted that Klaar was in Baku on November 28 and held talks with President Ilham Aliyev and Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov.
According to Turan, following the results of the meetings in Baku, he tweeted: "The important commitment by the President of Azerbaijan to the EU-facilitated format. 2) Many challenges remain; restraint and strong political will be needed by Azerbaijan and Armenia to reduce tensions to achieve a comprehensive settlement ."
According to observers, Klaar's latest visits are related to the disruption of the tripartite meeting in Brussels on December 7, after which, according to Azerbaijani experts, Ilham Aliyev allegedly rejected Nikol Pashinyan's request to invite French President Macron to this meeting as well. In their opinion, Klaar's statement that Aliyev is "committed to "the EU-facilitated format" can be interpreted as an attempt to find a formula suitable for everyone and to continue Armenian-Azerbaijani contacts in Brussels with the participation of European Council President Charles Michel.
