ArmInfo. The Secretary's continued engagement in the process of normalizing relations between Yerevan and Baku is a direct result of the United States commitment to promoting a peaceful future for the South Caucasus region. Principal Deputy Spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State Vedant Patel stated this during a briefing.
The representative of the American Foreign Ministry found it difficult to specify the dates of the next meeting between Yerevan and Baku through the mediation of Washington, as well as to add something else on this issue, only emphasizing that both the State Department and Secretary Blinken pay close attention to this issue.
"I don't think I have anything more to offer beyond those readouts, but this is something that of course this entire building and Secretary Blinken are paying close attention to and, ultimately, we believe that direct dialogue is key to resolving this issue and it's why we continue to remain very deeply engaged on this," he said.
It should be noted that earlier Secretary of State Antony Blinken held separate telephone conversations with the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia, during which the Secretary of State called on the parties to schedule further negotiations, as previously agreed in Washington.
