Pope urges to pray for peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan

ArmInfo.Pope Francis during his visit to Kazakhstan called for prayers for peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan.  "With concern, I learned that new hotbeds of  tension in the Caucasus region have ignited during these hours," the  Pope said at a Mass in Nur-Sultan.  He urged to continue to pray for  a peaceful settlement in these countries, so that harmony prevails  over strife.

On the night of September 13, the Armed Forces of the Republic of  Azerbaijan began large-scale military operations on the border with  Armenia using UAVs and large-caliber weapons. Armenia turned to  Russia, the CSTO and the UN Security Council in connection with the  aggression of Azerbaijan against the sovereign territory of Armenia.   In connection with the current situation, the RA police switched to  enhanced service. There are reports of dead and wounded on both  sides. According to the RA Prime Minister, at least  49 Armenian  soldiers were killed. And Azerbaijan confirmed the death of its 50  soldiers. Moscow announced the achievement of a truce between the  parties as of 09:00 am on September 13. Meanwhile, the RA Ministry of  Defense later reported on ongoing hostilities. France announced its  intention to appeal to the UN Security Council because of the  situation on the Armenian- Azerbaijani border. Armenia initiated a  special meeting of the OSCE Council. The CSTO will send a mission to  the region. From early morning the enemy resumed offensive operations  on the eastern lines.  

The State Commission for the Affairs of Prisoners of War, Missing and  Hostage Citizens of Azerbaijan also announced the readiness of the  Azerbaijani side to unilaterally transfer up to 100 bodies of  Armenian servicemen to Armenia on September 12-13 this year. The  International Committee of the Red Cross has also been informed of  this.
