ArmInfo. Attempts to bring Yerevan and Baku to the negotiating table and to give constructiveness to the Armenian-Azerbaijani dialogue as much as possible will continue. A similar opinion was expressed to ArmInfo by president of the Yerevan Press Club Boris Navasardyan.
"In fact, there is no more convenient and constructive format for Armenian-Azerbaijani negotiations than bilateral negotiations. In this sense, the role of the EU and President of the European Council Charles Michel personally should be reduced to establishing a direct dialogue, respectively, direct agreements between Armenia and Azerbaijan ", he remarked.
According to the expert, time will show how much Brussels will be able to achieve this goal. Today, to our great regret, the main issues are being resolved in a different format, completely not proceeding from the interests of Armenia, within the framework of which the Russian Federation, with a certain participation of Turkey, reaches agreements with Azerbaijan. In some cases, Iran is also informed about them. After that, ready-made solutions to this or that problem of the conflict are presented to Armenia.
According to Navasardyan, against this background, the EU is making real efforts towards achieving a comprehensive solution to the Karabakh conflict. However, it does not have enough leverage to achieve that goal, which, in turn, is due exclusively to the energy cooperation between the EU and Azerbaijan. In this light, Brussels cannot offer something else to Baku.
Commenting on the absence of any role of the OSCE Minsk Group in the settlement of the conflict, the expert explained this fact by the presence of more influential players, primarily Russia and Turkey. Ankara has always opposed MG, and Moscow does so, realizing the impossibility of finding a common language with Washington and Paris in the current Ukrainian geopolitical realities. "After the results of the 44-day war and starting from the war in Ukraine, Moscow is obviously not interested in the participation of OSCE Minsk Group partners in the negotiations on Artsakh. And the influence of Russia and Turkey is quite enough to prevent the return of France and the United States to the settlement process as mediators," he summed up.
