ArmInfo.I do not think that Azerbaijan will use the roads provided by Armenia to communicate with the Nakhichevan exclave. Political scientist Stepan Grigoryan expressed a similar opinion to ArmInfo.
On August 19, a draft decision of the Government of Armenia was published on the website e-draft.am, which notes the following. "Based on Part 2 of Article 122 of the Law "On Customs Regulation", the Government of the Republic of Armenia decides: To establish a customs control zone in the areas of the Sotk, Yeraskh, Karahunj customs checkpoints of the Southern Customs Department.
" Baku is very tough on the issue of the inadmissibility of checking Azerbaijani passports by Armenian border guards. And with the support of Ankara, it demands exactly the corridor that is not controlled by Yerevan. I also expect Azerbaijani demands to quickly organize communication between Armenia and Artsakh through a new road under construction as well. And I do not exclude at all that the Azerbaijanis intend to control this corridor on an equal basis with the Russians, of course, with the consent of Moscow," he forecasts.
The political scientist believes that another possible scenario is the activation of enclave issues in the near future. According to him, the establishment of Russian checkpoints in Tavush and Tigranashen is the proof of this. According to his forecasts, there are all prerequisites for the transformation of these territories into a neutral zone with subsequent surrender to Azerbaijan.
Commenting on the information about the preparation of the next Putin-Pashinyan-Aliyev meeting in Moscow on August 31, Grigoryan noted that the main topic of these negotiations will be Baku's desire to use the "Zangezur Corridor" for communication with Nakhichevan and Turkey.
"Baku sets difficult conditions, while Yerevan tries to make compromises, for example, in the form of joint Russian-Armenian inspection bodies on transit routes. I just can't imagine in practice how Armenia can agree to Azerbaijan's conditions. Among other things, this is about elementary technical issues. Azerbaijan demands to organize the movement of its own citizens through the territory of another state so that they do not come into contact with any bodies of this state, which is impossible in practice," the political scientist summed up.
